Joyce and I decided to get another tattoo each. Rather than splatter each other's names across our bodies (we'll do that next time), we both, independent of the other, decided to get a tattoo to honor one of our favorite Baltimore bands,
The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad.
Several years ago, I had come up with a twisted idea to get a Flute Squad tattoo based on one of my favorite DMFS tunes, "I Got Black Shit On My Boobies" (off their album "
Hugburn"). Check out the song as played at their
March 23, 2007 Lo Fi Social Club show (I had been released from the hospital only a week earlier after having my appendix removed). I included "Bacon" only because I love how they transition between the two songs:
Having already gotten a tattoo of
a dog with a vagina for a mouth, as well as another tattoo depicting
a flesh wound full of maggots, I decided to go with my first instinct and got this fantastic tattoo from
Saints & Sinners on my chest:

I love this work because while it's a way of paying tribute to a band I really like, to be honest, unless you're
very familiar with the music catalog of the Flute Squad, the meaning of this tattoo will remain a mystery. It didn't take as long to complete as I thought it would, which is a good thing because this small tattoo held more pain than all my other tattoos combined. I'm serious! I'm never getting another tattoo on my chest.
Joyce was on deck next. She had been to a Flute Squad show recently and wanted to get one of their stickers, but they were apparently out. This is the sticker Joyce wanted (held up by Nikc "Grandma's Dick" Miller):

Joyce got together with her tattoo guy (Dwayne) and they began to put her idea to work.

To be totally honest, while I love my tattoo, I kind of wish I had thought up the idea that Dwayne and Joyce came up with. In a word, this tattoo is outrageous!

Apart from the idea itself of using the slogan from the sticker, I really like the horse head design in the middle (for those unaware, The Flute Squad is fronted by a guy named Horsepower), as well as the blue shading.

The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad will be performing at this year's Artscape on July 18. On July 23 they will be at Mac's in Essex, MD.
